The SIXTEEN BODHISATTVA PRECEPTS

  • Milwaukee Zen Center 2825 N Stowell Ave Milwaukee, WI 53211 USA (map)

“The Precepts are nothing more or less than the simple manifestation of actual practice: what the mind and heart of Zen look like when engaged with the world.” Jane Hirshfield

The SIXTEEN BODHISATTVA PRECEPTS are the gate to authentic Zen practice. They offer a way to bring the stillness and silence of sitting into active expression in everyday affairs; a way for compassion to enter all aspects of our lives. … These precepts are intended for those who dedicate their lives to the liberation of all living beings.

from BEING UPRIGHT, Zen Meditation and the Bodhisattva Precepts, by Reb Anderson

In this eight-week class we will study Reb’s book and discuss how the precepts can give us guidance in the complexity of our world. This class is especially recommended for students who are thinking of becoming lay- ordained.
