HOW TO COOK YOUR LIFE. The TENZOKYOKUN as Skillful Means

  • Milwaukee Zen Center 2825 N Stowell Ave Milwaukee, WI 53211 USA (map)

In this 8-week class we will study a well-known text by Eihei Dogen, in which he highlights the practice of the Zen cook, the tenzo. It was written as part of the Eihei Shingi, Dogen’s Pure Standards for the Zen Community, as an example for how anyone should live their lives fully.

The primary text for this class is: How To Cook Your Life. From the Zen Kitchen to Enlightenment, with a commentary by Kosho Uchiyama, in a translation by Thomas Wright.

In addition, you may be interested in Dogen’s Pure Standards for the Zen Community. A Translation of the Eihei Shingi, by Taigen Leighton and Shohaku Okumura.
