Hiroshima Memorial Silent Meditation
and Chanting Service
Wednesday, August 6th, 1:00 pm Central Time, in the zendo and on Zoom
We will join Geoff Shōun O’Keeffe, Executive Director at Zen Peacemakers,
for a Hiroshima Memorial Silent Meditation.
Zen Peacemakers practice seeing our world from a position of stillness and non-judgment, witnessing life's beauty and joy alongside the horror and suffering, without looking away. From that intense experience our hearts call us to act.
Eighty year ago, on August 6, 1945, at nine in the morning local time, the US military flew seven aircraft over Hiroshima, Japan, with one dropping an atomic bomb that killed 80,000 to 156,000 civilians and 10,000 soldiers, instantly. Many more died of radiation poisoning afterwards.
Following the meditation, we will chant the Enmei Jukku Kannon Gyo, for protecting life, and the Daihi Shin Dharani, the Great Compassion Dharani, with a special dedication for the occasion.
