Buddhism arose in patriarchal societies, where only men were considered worthy of the Dharma. However, in India, China and Japan there have always women practitioners and teachers, some even highly respected. And nowadays, in the West, women are considered equal practitioners in most Buddhist circles.

In this class, we will become familiar with some of these names of antiquity, who often had to fight for equality, but also meet contemporary Zen teachers.
