JIZO WORKSHOP

JIZO BODHISATTVA, protector of children and travelers between the worlds, is especially beloved in Japan, where Jizō is also worshipped as the guardian of the souls of stillborn, miscarried or aborted children. In a special ritual red mini rakusus are sewn by parents as an expression of their grief. These are then draped on a Jizo statue as an offering.

Recently, sanghas have held workshops to make small jizo statues, one for each child killed in a war.
