I am writing to invite you and your sanghas to my seminar on Being Time and Deep Time. The seminar is Saturday June 19th, 1 - 4:30 pm [Chicago time] about Being Time [via Dogen], and Deep Time [via Joanna Macy].

I will give talks then discussion, starting with Dogen’s view of temporality, not only from his Shobogenzo Uji “Being Time” essay, but other works of his, along with background perspectives on time from East Asian Mahayana sources. Then I will talk about Joanna Macy’s Deep Time and concern for future beings, and how Being Time and Deep Time fit together and support each other.

The seminar will be in part based on my article “Being Time and Deep Time” from the book, A Wild Love for the World: Joanna Macy and the Work of Our Time (Shambhala).
