His practice began in San Francisco under Zen Master Zenshin Philip Whalen Roshi, and fifteen years ago he became a student of Master Ji Ru, abbot of the Mid-America Buddhist Association (MABA), from whom he received lay teaching endorsement.
The Title of his Talk: EXAMINATION OF CONDITIONS
As Bodhisattvas, when we are faced with anything from a minor irritation to the great tumult we are currently experiencing in our lives, in our communities, and in our country, we ask: how do we respond? Simply put: “We examine the conditions, then act appropriately.” In this talk, we will examine the definition and meaning of conditions, and what conditions tell us about action. As Bodhisattvas, we know there are many guidelines which our mindfulness and meditation offer us, as rafts to stabilize us when confronted with annoyances and with tumult, such as the Bodhisattva vows, the Precepts, the Paramitas, radical acceptance, and so on.
